One CEU will be available through NAB/Ncers for nursing home administrators.

Meeting Summary

This presentation will be provided by Charlie Schlegel, Director of the Division of Safety Inspection, Pennsylvania Department of Health and will provide Nursing Home Administrators, nursing staff, maintenance/engineering staff and quality assurance staff key information to provide a safe nursing home environment that promotes high quality resident care and maintain compliance with state licensure and federal certification requirements.  

This includes:

  • Understand physical environment requirements within the recent and complete update to the state Long Term Care (LTC) Regulations;
  • Review the 2018 Edition of the Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI) Guidelines for the Design and Construction of Residential Health, Care, and Support Facilities;
  • Recognize the necessity and process to inform the Pennsylvania Department of Health of new construction, renovations and alterations to LTC facilities;
  • Review and understand the federal Time-Limited Waiver process to provide additional time for correction of certain Life Safety Code deficiencies and avoid federal penalties;
  • Understand federal requirement changes for new construction, major renovations and newly certified resident rooms.
